Robert Massoud: the story of Palestine through Zatoun’s olive oil

Robert Massoud, Palestinian founder of Zatoun, speaks to us from Toronto about the organization as his life’s work and how it has become his voice and the story of Palestine as it also speaks for Palestinians who often lack a direct voice of their own.(First broadcast on WPKN on September 13, 2023.)

  1. Considering all that humanity is still inflicting upon itself, and we upon each other, and upon this planet, it is hard not to despair sometimes.

But, Hazel, the level of your commitment and integrity and even hope, as shown in your book and in your Leafages and in these Tidings programs was so welcome in how much was reflected by Robert Massoud in your interview with him today.

With his explanation to you of what is behind the undertaking of his mission-driven Zatoun olive oil…(which for me is quite the best/purest available anywhere and to be able to order direct as I do!) the examples each of you set I find to be very humbling and heart-warming.

And, as an old Brit, these days increasingly ashamed of the colonizing arrogance we Europeans imposed upon so much of the world, and not least, there betwixt the conflicting roots of Islam, Judaism and Christianity, Robert’s speaking for what is left of the ancient olive-groves on the beleaguered homelands of Palestine so beautifully embody Zatoun’s much needed plea for peace, and in the symbol of its sacred oil. So I thank you, both.

About Leafages

"Credo" statement

Leafages by Hazel Kahan are made from real leaves, vines and tendrils interwoven with calligraphy, decorative pen and ink flourishes and imaginary Latin botanical names. Leafages contain a philosophical or inspirational thought, quotation or verse from sages, poets or religious texts. Some leafages are specially created for an individual, a couple or a family with words or leaves reflecting their personal narrative. They are available on the Leafages shop on Etsy although the supply is low right now, all my energies having been absorbed by the book I’ve been writing. Do come back soon when the shop will be full of new leafage abundance or contact me.
