When Illness Is a ‘Death Sentence’: The Victimization of Gaza Women

Our conversation (scroll for audio) began with Ramzy Baroud talking about his article documenting the plight of seriously ill Palestinian women who are refused medical treatment by Israel because of their family’s Hamas connections.  Our conversation ended with Ramzy explaining his view of duality: with Ahed Tamimi as example, the reality and essence of one Ahed, the young Palestinian woman is distinct, existing in a different space, from the other, Western concept of Ahed Tamimi.  At a fundamental level, these two existences do not overlap so that to conflate them is to distort and misunderstand both. (I’ll be posting another interview with Ramzy Baroud by mid-October.  Stay tuned!)

Ramzy’s most recent book is The Last Earth: a Palestinian Story

  1. Having lived in the Middle East for 31 years and knowing these events first hand, i am so relieved that the “on the ground reality” for Palestinians living in Israel and Palestine is finally being exposed to the western world.

About Leafages

"Credo" statement

Leafages by Hazel Kahan are made from real leaves, vines and tendrils interwoven with calligraphy, decorative pen and ink flourishes and imaginary Latin botanical names. Leafages contain a philosophical or inspirational thought, quotation or verse from sages, poets or religious texts. Some leafages are specially created for an individual, a couple or a family with words or leaves reflecting their personal narrative. They are available on the Leafages shop on Etsy although the supply is low right now, all my energies having been absorbed by the book I’ve been writing. Do come back soon when the shop will be full of new leafage abundance or contact me.
